Bob Penner is the President and CEO of Strategic Communications Inc. (Stratcom), which he founded in 1991.
In addition to managing Strategic Communications, Bob
works as senior consultant including campaign,
communication, and fundraising sectors.
Bob has been a pollster and strategist for numerous elections and public interest advocacy campaigns over the past ten years.
Bob led the Stratcom team as the official pollster for Jack Layton and the NDP during the 2004 Federal election. Stratcom was also the pollster and political advisor for Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell and the 21 Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) candidates, who were swept into power by winning all seats they contested in the 2002 Vancouver civic election.
In the fundraising sector, Bob helped develop The
Council of Canadians' industry-leading fundraising
program through the 1990s as well as the Friends
of Canadian Broadcasting telefundraising and telephone
advocacy efforts. Bob serves as an advisor on
many of Stratcom's direct mail and telephone fundraising
accounts.
Bob participates in the socially responsible business
community, and is an active member as well as
a presenter for the Social Venture Institute.
He was nominated for an Ethics
in Action Business Award.
Prior to founding Stratcom, Bob was a peace and environmental activist. He held various positions including Development Director of Greenpeace Canada, and was the founding Coordinator of the Canadian Peace Alliance, where he played a prominent role in the national peace movement campaigns of the 1980s and early 1990s.
Originally from Toronto, Bob now lives in Vancouver
with his partner, fiction writer Shaena
Lambert, and their two children Peter and
Lucy. Bob commutes regularly between Stratcom’s
Toronto and Vancouver offices.
